The songs on Oscar Acevedo’s latest album, A Toda Costa, were inspired by his personal experiences as a Berklee graduate, musician and teacher at Universidad de los Andes, in his native Colombia.

“Our intention, with this repertoire,” he explains, “was to return to the fusion sound characteristic of the 1980’s.” A key instrument needed to achieve this sound, is the electric guitar. The Songwriting Department at Berklee presents an evening of hip-hop, highlighting the varied styles of this genre through performances from current students.

Tyler Childers sounds like the mountains. He has the musical sensibility of the lonesome, echoing, Eastern Kentucky hillsides, where he grew up, and a voice steeped in the grit of dirt roads. Great original songs are critical to the success of a solo artist or band. The Berklee Original Band Showcase features five Berklee bands playing 30-minute sets of original music in various genres. Presented by the Berklee Songwriting Department.

Inspired by the love relationship between novelists Vita Sackville-West and Virginia Woolf, Philadelphia’s Vita and the Woolf released their long-awaited new album, Tunnels on June 16 on Believe Global Label Services. The project was mixed by James Chapman (of Maps ) and has received widespread critical acclaim, among others finding a fan in M83 who wrote about them for USA Today  as well as being dubbed a “Band You Need To See” by Billboard. A dynamic and cerebral collection of soulful pop, the album touches on power dynamics in relationships and society as well as sexual discovery and empowerment.
