Bella’s Prime Slices (12/1 – 12/7): Holiday Edition

PJ Morton – Christmas with PJ Morton – (R&B)

PJ Morton unleashes a festive helping of New Orleans-styled carols on his first-ever holiday album, Christmas with PJ. The eight-track stocking stuffer is engrossed in the signature sounds of NOLA like jazz, Creole, and Cajun music. Although Morton decorates Christmas with PJ with his bluesy hometown traditions, the talented musician makes sure to keep the spirit of Christmas alive through each rendition. He also invites guest stars Yolanda Adams, Stokley and Hasizzle for the sleigh-ride.

Jessie J – This Christmas Day – (pop/R&B)

This album includes a mix of classics and one original song, as well as collaborations with Boyz II Men on “Winter Wonderland” and Babyface on “This Christmas Song.” “I love Christmas music and am so excited to release this album,” Jessie J says in a statement. She explains the inspiration behind the title track, the album’s sole original tune: “A very close friend of mine lost her brother, and watching someone I love go through such heavy grief every day was so hard. I wanted to write something that could just bring a little comfort.”

Pentatonix – Christmas is Here – (a cappella)

Following the release of their single “Making Christmas,” a cover from the soundtrack of the critically acclaimed movie The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993), a cappella group Pentatonix released their fourth full-length Christmas album on Oct. 26, titled Christmas Is Here! Featuring favorites like “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” and “Jingle Bells,” the album also boasts collaborations with industry staples Kelly Clarkson and Maren Morris. The album, currently available on all major streaming platforms, is another solid entry in Pentatonix’s repertoire.

Lucius –”Christmas Time Is Here” on Side A and “Keep Me Hanging On” on side B (indie pop)

Lucius has recorded and shared a brand new cover of the “Peanuts” cartoon holiday classic, “Christmas Time Is Here.” The seasonal new single will be released physically as a 7” as part of the Fug Yep Soundation, a series of record releases in memoriam to benefit late producer and rock performer Richard Swift.
