Win Tickets to “So, What Do You Want To Know?” Conversations With Nick Cave, May 1

Story by Allie Kersten

Nick Cave has had a career more versatile than most. He’s more than a triple threat as a singer-songwriter, author, composer, screenwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and even an actor. He’s led the bands The Birthday Party (formerly The Boys Next Door), Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, and Grinderman, as well as his own solo career. Cave is most known for his contributions to the post-punk, gothic rock, alternative rock, experimental rock, and garage rock genres. His sound is exposed, of course, in his personal music that he has released with his multiple groups, but his trace can be found in the soundtracks of films such as Dogs in Space, The Soul of A Man, Batman Forever, The X-Files, Shrek 2, and Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows – Part 1. Cave has built quite the reputation in the entertainment world since he began his music career. Continue reading “Win Tickets to “So, What Do You Want To Know?” Conversations With Nick Cave, May 1”

Win Tickets to see Lauren Ruth Ward Live @ the Red Room

Tune in to birnCORE this Thursday, April 26th @ 8 PM EST for a live broadcast from The Red Room @ Cafe 939 featuring Lauren Ruth Ward.

At 22 years old, Lauren Ruth Ward had a career in hairstyling that was going quite well. She was ambitious, successful, and doing work she loved, yet something was missing. In 2015 she decided to pack up and move to Los Angeles to start a career in music. After meeting Liv Slingerland, India Pasucci, and Eduardo Rivera, she was able to write and record her debut album, Well, Hell. The album features nine tracks, which Ward calls the band’s “four modes.”

Since releasing her debut, her music has spread like wildfire throughout LA. Her lyrics are secrets to strangers, writing about her life’s trajectory sharing both vulnerability and strength delivered with grit and vibrato. Her band re-creates 60’s rock and roll nuances, allowing Ward to release a powerhouse of raw, visceral emotion in their live show.

The Red Room and the BIRN would like you to meet one of the most exciting new artists in the LA scene! Win tickets to see Lauren Ruth Ward live at the Red Room on Thursday, April 26 at 8 pm.

There are 3 pairs of tickets available and you can win by emailing your name and contact phone number to LaurenRuthWardLive@thebirn.com. One lucky winner will also receive a signed copy of her debut EP.

Dead Horses and Kate Rhudy Live From the Red Room

Tune in this Wednesday, April 11th @ 8 PM EST to birnCORE for a live broadcast from the The Red Room @ Cafe 939 featuring Dead Horses and Kate Rhudy.

“At fifteen, Dead Horses frontwoman Sarah Vos’ world turned upside down. Raised in a strict, fundamentalist home, Vos lost everything when she and her family were expelled from the rural Wisconsin church where her father had long served as pastor.” The Dead Horses’ new album titled My Mother the Moon is one that is “full of trauma and triumph, despair and hope, pain and resilience. Blending elements of traditional roots with modern indie folk, the songs are both familiar and unexpected, unflinchingly honest in their portrayal of modern American life, yet optimistic in their unshakable faith in brighter days to come.” Vos really puts all her heart and soul into the creation of these songs and their larger works after being through such hardship in her past.
