Harry Jay, Miette Hope, and Cypress Live from the Red Room

February 1, 2019 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm EST

Tune into birnCORE on Friday, February 1 at 8:00 p.m. for performances by Berklee alumni Harry Jay, Miette Hope, and Cypress, live from the Red Room at Cafe 939.

Harry Jay is an R&B, soul, and funk artist who grew up in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., and now lives in Boston. Jay has a knack for catchy, soulful hooks and dreamy neo-soul harmonies that captivate his listeners. Dubbed “yacht-hop,” his unique style of music draws influence from artists like Marvin Gaye, the Roots, and Anderson.Paak, among others, and has caught the attention of music-enthusiasts throughout the Northeast. Jay’s first solo single, “Tribeca Falls,” embodies powerful storytelling and songwriting, and utilizes much of his noted multiple-octave vocal range. Described by Earbits radio as “the musical love child of Steely Dan and Jamiroquai,” Jay will continue to make his funky, new imprint on R&B music throughout the world.

Miette Hope is a 22-year-old singer-songwriter and artist based in Brooklyn, New York. A recent Berklee graduate, she was the first ever Vans Off the Wall Scholarship recipient. Her style can be identified by its emotional, honest lyrics over spatially rhythmic, tasty grooves. Her songs embody the beauty of life’s trials and triumphs. With her lyrics complimented by infectious melodies, Hope’s music will move your body and your soul. Her live performance usually includes a five-piece band with vocal harmonies, though she also has the ability to play solo with her guitar and loop pedal.

Cypress is the project of singer-songwriter Ben Higginbotham. Based in Boston but originally from Dallas, Texas, Higginbotham formed the group in 2017 with several friends from college. Based on simple melodies, the music allows his lyrics to shine in a way that evokes artists such as Ray LaMontagne, Maggie Rogers, and James Bay. The band’s debut single, “Oh Canada,” was recorded in Austin, Texas, by longtime collaborator Taylor Tatsch.
