Gina Chavez Live from the Red Room

October 19, 2018 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm EDT

Tune into birnCORE on Friday, October 19 at 8 p.m. for a performance by Latin pop singer Gina Chavez live from the Red Room at Cafe 939.

Gina Chavez is a multi-ethnic Latin pop/folk singer and is known for blending the sounds of her many influences seamlessly. She has had a great deal of success in her career, hitting the top of the Amazon and Latin iTunes charts after her national feature on NPR’s “All Things Considered.” In 2015, Chavez performed with her band on NPR’s Tiny Desk concerts, making the top 15 of Tiny Desk performances that year. Chavez also won the John Lennon Songwriting Contest in 2014 with her Spanish anthem, “Siete-D.”

Originally from Austin, Texas, Gina began her career as a songwriter and performer at the University of Texas at Austin when she was 18. Surprisingly, Gina did not grow up listening to Latin music but was influenced by artists like Michael Jackson, Lyle Lovett, and Little Richard.

Chavez studied in Argentina during her first year of college and developed a love for folk music and dance. Because of her time in Argentina, her own music has been inspired by Spanish lyrics and rhythms ever since. In 2007, Gina released her debut album, Hanging Spoons. She then went on to release two more full albums and one EP, one of which was voted Austin Album of the Year.

Gina is fresh off her 14 country tour and recently released her new single “Let it Out.” You can listen to this release and more through all major streaming platforms, and on her website.
