On Thursday, April 26 at 7:00 PM, Gretchen Parlato and Mirella Costa will become the latest of a long list of stellar artists to perform at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum’s RISE series. Curated by Shea Rose and Simone Scazzocchio, the RISE music series creates “a whole new way for audiences and musicians to connect…”
Gretchen Parlato has built herself quite the reputation and career as an incredibly successful jazz vocalist. She has won countless awards and acknowledgements for all of her album releases: Gretchen Parlato, In A Dream (#1 Vocal Jazz album of 2009 along with similar others), The Lost and Found (multiple top album acknowledgements), and Live in NYC received the 57th Grammy awards nomination for Best Jazz Vocal Album. Gretchen has also received many nominations, acknowledgements, and awards for her talent such as the 2014 Nightlife Award for Outstanding Female Jazz Vocalist, multiple top spot acknowledgements by the JazzTimes Critics and the Downbeat Critics, the opportunity to be a judge for the 2013 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition, and so much more. Parlato has performed at a variety of destinations from Carnegie Hall to the North Sea & Montreal Jazz Festival, and worked with jazz legends such as Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter.
Vocalist, Mirella Costa earned a bachelor’s degree in popular music, Brazilian music, and jazz at Souza Lima Music Conservatory in Sao Paulo, Brazil. She now is a current Berklee student and is working on her EP, “Grande Divas” which will honor prestigious Brazilian singers such as Elis Regina, Nana Caymmi, and Elza Soares.
Come to Calderwood Hall in the Isabella Gardner Museum on April 26 to see both of these tremendously talented women do what they love. It will be an amazing night of live music.
